Housewife jailed for pouring hot water on husband

An FCT Area Court in Lugbe, on Thursday sentenced a housewife, Owolati
Laide, 45, to three months imprisonment for pouring hot water on her
husband.
The convict who lives at Goesse Village, Airport Road Abuja, was
sentenced on a one-count charge of "causing hurt on provocation.''
The Judge, Mr Gambo Garba, however, gave Laide an option of N5, 000 fine.
According to the judge, the court is being lenient because of her six-
month old baby.
Garba said the punishment would have been more severe if the convict
had not pleaded guilty and saved the court the pains of protracted
prosecution.

He told the convict to desist from committing crime.
The convict had pleaded guilty and begged the court to tamper justice
with mercy.
" Please sir, don't send me to jail because of my six months old baby.
" I am so sorry for what I did; it was the devil that lured me into
this act. I will not do it again.
"I just discovered that my husband has other five wives without my
consent. When I confronted him, he started beating me and I had
injuries all over my body.
"So, when I was washing my face with hot water, he came and started
beating me. In the process the hot water poured on him.
"I did not intentionally pour hot water on the man, please sir,
forgive me, '' she pleaded
Owolati Tajudeem, her husband, had told the court that Laide got
annoyed because his second wife who was pregnant came from Lagos
without her consent.
"She is aware of my marriage to other five wives," he said.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Lliyau Maji, prayed the court to try the
convict summarily since she admitted committing the crime.
Maji told the court that the accused husband reported the matter at
Iddo Police Station, Abuja, on Jan. 2.
Maji said that the complainant claimed that the accused person poured
hot water on him all over his body while he was asleep in the night.
The prosecutor said the accused person committed the crime out of provocation.
Maji alleged that the accused person intentionally committed the
action that contravened Section 245 of the Penal Code.

Man Accused Of Raping Neighbour’s Pregnant wife

Twenty-five-year-old Monday Maule has been accused of raping one Mrs.
Chinyere Samuel, his neighbour's wife, who is eight months pregnant
and has four children.
Maule was said to have committed the act on Monday, February 23, 2015.
It was gathered that Mr. Samuel, Chinyere's husband, was not always at
home due to the nature of his job. Samuel, a Ghanaian by nationality
works with a Chinese construction company and hardly returns home to
his family.
Our correspondent learnt that Maule allegedly committed the act by
sneaking into the couple's apartment during the early hours of the day
(5am) at Friends Colony Agungi, Lekki, Lagos.
It was learnt that Chinyere and her children were fast asleep and
Maule seized the opportunity to overpower her.
Chinyere was said to have woken up to find Maule on her. She quickly
raised the alarm and attracted other neighbours. The incident was said
to have caused her emotional and physical damage.
Maule was on Wednesday arraigned before Mrs. O. M. Sanyo of the Lagos
Magistrates' Court, Tinubu, Lagos Island on one count of rape. The
charge read, "That you, Monday Maule, on February 23, 2015, at Friends
Colony, Agungi, Lekki, Lagos did unlawfully and forcefully have carnal
knowledge of one Chinyere Samuel without her consent and thereby
committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 259 of
the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011."
Maule pleaded not guilty and was admitted to bail in the sum of N250,
000 with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate said the sureties must show evidence of tax payment to
the Lagos State Government and one of the sureties must be a blood
relation of the defendant.
The matter was adjourned till Monday March 23, 2015, pending legal
advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on March 4, 2015
arraigned Eleven suspected oil thieves: Ephraim Akpan, Agadagba
Ochuko, Clement Tommy, Oyayefa Abonne, Bousou Kereotu, Dereye Harry,
Lucky Abonne, Dapo Obdare, Friday Ibude, Ebi Ekokeme, Vincent
Elayegha, and the vessel, MT Petroitti before Justice M.S Abubakar of
the Federal High Court Warri, Delta State on a 2- count charge
bordering on conspiracy and illegal dealing in petroleum product.
The accused persons and their vessel were arrested on May 23, 2014 by
officers of the Nigerian Navy following a tip off around Ofoma oil
terminal in Delta State, with about 272MT of substance suspected to be
crude oil and handed over to the EFCC for further investigation and
prosecution. They pleaded not guilty.

One of the charges read, "That you Ephraim Akpan, Agadagba Ochuko,
Clement Tommy, Oyayefa Abonne, Bousou Kereotu, Dereye Harry, Lucky
Abonne, Dapo Obadare, Friday Ibude, Ebi Ekokeme, Vincent Elayegha, M.T
Petroitti, on or about the 23rd day of March, 2014 around Ofoma oil
terminal in Delta State within the jurisdiction of this honorable
court did without appropriate authority deal with 272 metric tons of
crude oil conveyed in MT Petroitti and thereby committed an offence
contrary to Section 1 (17) (a) of the Miscellaneous Offence Act Cap
M17 of the Revised Edition (Laws of the Federation of Nigeria) 2007
and punishable under Section 1 (17) of the same Act.

In view of their plea, the prosecution counsel E.Edebor prayed the
court for a date to present his witnesses for commencement of trial.
In response, defendants' counsel S.A.Somiari informed the court that
he had filed his motion for bail and assured the court his clients
would make themselves available for trial.

Justice Mohammed granted bail to the eleven accused persons in the sum
of One Million Naira (N1, 000,000, 00) and two sureties in like sum.
One of the sureties must have landed properties within the
jurisdiction of the court. The matter was adjourned to May 5, 2015 for
trial.

NNPC: Fuel Scarcity Will End Before Weekend

The Group Executive Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation
(NNPC),Aisha Abdulrahman,on Tuesday, assured Nigerians that long
queues in petrol stations will end before weekend.

Aisha gave the assurance when the Supervising Minister of
Information,Edem Duke, visited the NNPC Mega Station on Olusegun
Obasanjo Way in Wuse Zone 1, Abuja.

"We are assuring you before the end of the week queues will be a thing
of the past and if it still persist, I will personally be on the
stations to see that you get fuel", she said.

Aisha said the queue was as a result of speculations about impending
increase in pump price of petrol.

"There is this speculation that price of fuel and other products will
be increased and people tend to panic.''

She, however, said that leakage and pipeline vandalism were part of
the challenges facing distribution. According to her, the corporation
is doing its best to address the problem.

"I think this is a wrong time for Nigerians to begin to queue up to
buy fuel and engage in panic buying.
It is easing out, and by tomorrow and by the end of the week, the long
queues will disappear all over the country", she said.

She added that the corporation had adopted a standard practice by
ensuring 24 hours service delivery to ease out the queues.
Managing Director, NNPC Retail,Chris Osarumwense,said the corporation
had enough and had distributed products round the country.

"We had a small challenge in our supply systems; but that has been
ratified. It will take some time for us to clear the queue" he said.
He, however, said that Petroleum Products and Marketing Company
(PPMC), had capacity to ensure distribution of products from March 3
to April 2.

"We are to service the NNPC network, all over the country; we get
about 225 trucks daily.
In NNPC branded retail, we have about 550 retails as well as our
affiliated retails", he said.

The Supervising Minister of Information encouraged other petrol
stations to ensure 24 hours service delivery so as to ease out the
queues.

house in Nazareth, according to research The alleged place where Jesus
spent his childhood before becoming Messiah may have been found – at
least archaeologists say so.

Archaeologists working in Nazareth, Israel, have identified a house
dating to the first century that was regarded as the place where Jesus
was brought up.

According to Biblical Archaeology Review written by a professor Ken
Dark at the University of Reading in UK, it was first uncovered in the
1880s, by nuns at the Sisters of Nazareth convent.

It was later excavated by archaeologists in 2006 achaeologists and
dated to the first century. The house is partly made of
mortar-and-stone walls, and was cut into a rocky hillside; the
structure included a series of rooms

– one, with its doorway, survived to its full height. The researcher
believes that that the house was turned into a graveyard after the
Jesus family moved out, then there was a church built on top.

"Was this the house where Jesus grew up? It is impossible to say on
archaeological grounds. On the other hand, there is no good
archaeological reason why such an identification should be
discounted," Dark writes.
