A social media start-up requires an Editor. The Editor will be based in Lagos, Nigeria. The mission of the start-up is to be the number one portal in Anglophone Africa. This is a highly visible role; the Editor must be confident and sociable with good communication and presentation skills. Please kindly note that this is a full time role.
Responsibilities
The editor will assist in the overall growth of the web portal.
The editor will manage the contents of the portal.
The editor will be required to take ownership of the following services within the portal -Modern Africa Woman Service and Big Issue, and to grow these services to the best in Africa within an agreed timeframe
Ideal Candidate Requirements (Experience, Skills, Competencies, etc.)
The editor will monitor and manage creative writers, paid columnists and guest columnists
The editor will commission the creative writers and paid columnists to write articles and will set delivery timeframe
Also the editor will generate interesting subjects that creative writers and paid columnists will write about.
The editor will proofread, approve and reject every article submitted by creative writers, paid columnists and guest columnists before they are published
The editor will ensure articles meet set standard before they can be published.
The editor will be responsible for consistently raising the profile of the web portal
The editor will be required to generate thought-provoking questions for our Big Issue service. The Editor’s duty will be to raise questions based on current affairs.
The editor will encourage politicians, business leaders, celebrities, religious leaders, social activists, etc. to publish their articles on our platform
As one of the services the website will offer is focused on women, the editor will be expected to have good understanding of women subjects
The editor will help with the expansion of the portal i.e. introduction of specialized bloggers
The editor will write the weekly Editor’s letter - this will be a weekly letter on women and other related issues worldwide
The editor will organize meeting with columnists
The editor will ensure compliance with media law and ethical guidelines
Must have excellent communication skills: verbal, listening and writing
Must have excellent command of English Language
Must be an imaginative, open minded and receptive to other peoples’ views
Must be a sociable person with strong networking skills - a strong social DNA
Must be a prolific writer with extensive writing experience
Must be a wide reader
Must be an unbiased professional - without any political, social, religious agenda to promote
Must have good project management skills and must have basic IT skills
